Baste Duterte quits smoking for good health

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista escorts presidential son Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte during the culmination of the 21st Kidapawan City Charter Day on February 12, 2019.

KIDAPAWAN CITY — Presidential son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte thanked the city government here for implementing some ordinances similar to Davao City.

The younger Duterte, speaking to the huge crowd attending the culmination program of the city’s 21st Charter Day on Tuesday, commended the city’s 911 rescue ambulance and the ‘no smoking policy’ in all public places.

“It’s no easy to implement ordinance like that kay ako mismo di pud ko ganahan sa ubang balaod nga gi-implementar sa amoa sa Davao kaniadto kay ako kusog ko sa una manigarilyo (because I, myself,  don’t even like some ordinances implemented in Davao before because I smoke), he said.

But the presidential son said quitting smoking can bring back the good health of a smoker and can also help improve other people’s health.

Duterte commended the people of Kidapawan for being law-abiding citizens who follow their local ordinances.

“Kay bisan unsa nga ordinansa, bisan unsa nga balaod og di motuman, ang importante ang disiplina ninyo (Whatever ordinance, whatever laws… if you will not obey. The most important is your discipline),” the younger Duterte said.

He also lauded the local government for receiving an award from the peace and order council. /ee
