John Lloyd Cruz’s hard work continues to reap it benefits despite being inactive in showbiz.
The blockbuster actor’s performance in Lav Diaz’s revenge drama Ang Babaeng Humayo earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 15th International Cinephile Society.
Aside from John Lloyd, the movie stars veteran actress and ABS-CBN chief content officer Charo Santos, who plays the role of Horacia, a woman seeking vengeance for her imprisonment of 30 years for a crime she didn’t commit.
It may be recalled that John Lloyd plays the role of Hollanda, a transvestite whom Horacia eventually takes under her wing.
The film is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film not in the English Language category.
These nominations came almost two years after the film won the top prize at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival in 2016.
The former Home Sweetie Home actor is set to compete with American actors Willem Dafoe famous for his character in Spiderman, Armie Hammer famous for being The Lone Ranger and Michael Stuhlbarg known in the series Boardwalk Empire, as well as Dunkirk Irish actor Barry Keoghan and BPM French actor Arnaud Valois.
The winners of the 15th ICS Awards will be announced on February 4.
Formed in 2003, the International Cinephile Society is an online group made up of approximately 100 accredited journalists, film scholars, historians and other industry professionals who cover film festivals and events on five continents.
The award-giving body aims at honoring “the finest in American and international cinema.”
