“Japanese Princess gives up title to marry commoner”

The Japanese Princess married a 32-year-old employee of a shipping company.

Twenty-eight-year-old Japanese Princess Ayoko married a commoner named Kei Moriya on Monday, October 29. According to TIME, the ceremony was held at the Meijo Shrine in Tokyo.

The princess is the third daughter of the late Prince Takamado. Meanwhile, Kei is a 32-year-old employee of shipping company Nippon Yusen.

After their marriage, Ayoko will be stepping down as princess as Japanese imperial law states that female members of the royal family should give up their titles when they marry someone who is not from a noble line.

Ayoko reportedly will receive $950,000 for her living expenses when she gives up her title.
